I can get one of these for free, the gal probably just doesn't know how to clean a jam properly... anyone know of any major problems with these?

Yeah, I've worked on 1 or 2 of those over the years. The main issue that you will have is simply the copiers age. I think they were made in 1989....that's pretty old in the copier world. You see, there are a lot of parts made from rubber (like feed tires) and that rubber tends to break down over time and can give you all kinds of different problems. If it's free, go for it....you've got nothing to lose. You can still get some parts for those at www.precisionroller.com Best of luck to you, Jim.

There are Some parts that are not available from OEM.
Critical stuff like clutches and thermistors. If those never go bad, one thing to watch is the waste toner, they tend to overfill before the rated number of copies and puke all over the back of the copier.
