I got the message "Call for service", the paper jam light, paper light and toner light are flashing at the same time. Anyone has any idea? Thanks.

    Hi
If you press the clear+8 keys what's the code? CA1??? Then you have to swapp the laser unit and upgrade the firmware to Version Z

Yes, the code is CA1. Do you know how to update the firmware to Version Z?

CA-1 is a bad laser unit. The mirror motor is not running. CAREFULLY pull the laser out, pop the cover off the laser and look (don't touch) the poly mirror. If the leading edges of the mirror surfaces look like they have been sand blasted, you'll need to replace the laser with the updated one. The original lasers had a defect where they didn't put a foam seal around the wire harness leading out of the laser case. Dust would migrate into the laser, and with the speed of the poly mirror motor, the dust would etch the surface of the mirrors. Also, the dust would get into the sleeve of the air bearing and freeze up the motor, or slow it down enough to throw a CA-1 code. Part # 41303621200

Easiest way to update the firmware is via Toshiba Viewer. Get hold of the firmware files, and up it goes. Failing that, you can download the firmware and put it on two floppies. Boot your computer from the floppies with a parallel cable plugged into the back of the copier and follow the steps. Problem with the floppy version is that you need to make those disks in Windows 98. For some reason it won't work with anything later than that.

Depending on where you are in the world, you can claim the cost of the laser unit back from Toshiba. Cheaper than buying a Ricoh polygon motor - but the motor does fit and work if you need it.
